What Is a Bill of Quantities?

A bill of quantities is a structured document that lists all the items of work in a construction project, specifies the unit of measurement and provides the quantity of each item. It allows subbies and suppliers to insert their rate against a defined scope, producing a tender sum that can be checked, compared and negotiated. A Perth BoQ follows Australian measurement conventions and references the relevant WA supply and authority standards.

Measured, Not Estimated

A bill of quantities is only worth having if every line in it can be traced back to something on the drawing. Otherwise it is a list of guesses in a tidy format.
